BIOGRAPHY

I have been in love with visual arts since I was very young. At the start I tried pencil drawing and charcoal. But soon I found painting with colors more amusing. I took on colored pens, pastels, then watercolors. I even tried digital painting, and was about to try acrylic and oil. But, I realized the more is not always the better. After that, I wound back and settled with my true love — watercolor.
Why watercolor? This was the question I used to ask myself. As most people can’t find a clear reason why they fell in love with something, I can’t tell either, but I can try. I think the vibrant and versatile nature of watercolors may be the main attraction. With the water spotting and flowing, and the colors touching, mixing, and communicating with each other. The process itself is a joyful journey. The final outcome is somehow unpredictable, yet controllable if you master the skills. From wet washes to dry brush effects, watercolors can produce effects from realistic, surreal, to abstract, with so different outcomes that no other medium can match.
Painting watercolor isn’t without frustration. With the stacks of paintings at my house, I started to look for opportunities to display them. My applications to art events were mostly rejected due to the age restriction. But, one event did accept me with the assumption of my age, but later withdrew the invitation when they realized the truth. Apparently I'm not supposed to paint well until I’m older. But, unfortunately, my skills grow faster than my body.
Even with that, my love of art is not discouraged. I’m lucky to have great parents and teachers supporting my pursuit of art and I’m also happy to see there are people who like my artworks and want to purchase my works.
Watercolor is not the only thing I am learning. My ambition for the future would not be limited to just one career, as a watercolor artist. I never thought about selling my paintings for money, until last summer. During the summer I attended a charity event organized by St. Louis Children Hospital Foundation, and I learned that there are people not as lucky as me. That’s why I decided to build a website to sell my art so I can collect funds to help those children who suffer from cancer at my age or even younger.
And that’s why this website is here.
